Syn-Ake
Also known as: Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, SYN-AKE, beta-Ala-Pro-Dab-NHBn diacetate
Synthetic cosmetic dipeptide (beta-alanyl-prolyl-diaminobutyroyl benzylamide, supplied as the diacetate salt) developed by Pentapharm/DSM to mimic Waglerin-1, a component of temple viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri) venom. It acts as a reversible antagonist of the muscle-type (m) nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, reducing repeated muscle contraction to soften expression wrinkles in a topical, Botox-mimetic fashion. It is a topical cosmetic ingredient, not a therapeutic drug, and has no FDA drug approval; cosmetic anti-wrinkle claims rest mainly on manufacturer studies. The diacetate salt molecular formula is C23H37N5O7 (active dipeptide core C19H29N5O3).
