Immune Modulator

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP)

Also known as: VIP

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino acid neuropeptide of the secretin/glucagon family, widely distributed in the CNS and peripheral nervous system. It is a potent vasodilator, bronchodilator, and immunomodulator. Synthetic VIP (aviptadil) has been investigated in clinical trials for COVID-19-associated acute respiratory failure; it is NOT FDA-approved. Intranasal compounded VIP is used off-label in the controversial 'CIRS' (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) / mold-illness protocol popularized by Ritchie Shoemaker — CIRS is not a mainstream medical diagnosis.

A Historical Review of Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide and Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase-Activating Polypeptide in Sepsis

The neuropeptides vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) have emerged as potent modulators of immune responses during sepsis, yet their roles remain complex, alternating between protective and permissive depending on timing, tissue compartment, and inflammator…

Optogenetic circuit mapping reveals connectivity and synaptic physiology of T-stellate projections from the cochlear nucleus to the auditory midbrain

T-stellate neurons in the ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN) receive synaptic input from the cochlear nerve and encode information about sound frequency and intensity, including rapid fluctuations in sound intensity that are important for speech processing.

An inhibitory circuit motif governs oscillation-dependent coupling between aperiodic activity and neural spiking

Behavior arises from coordinated neural population activity, yet how spiking and synaptic interactions give rise to extracellular population signals, including local field potentials (LFPs), remains unresolved.

Opposing behavioral roles for a single gene in a species with a supergene polymorphism

Behavioral trade-offs, such as between territorial aggression and parental care, require coordination among neural and genetic mechanisms that influence opposing phenotypes.

Cell Type-Specific Microcircuit Dynamics During Fear Conditioning in the Prefrontal Cortex

Abstract Fear, essential for survival, is regulated by complex neural circuits, with the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) serving as a key controller.

The VIP-VIPR2 axis strengthens intestinal barrier integrity and antimicrobial immunity in Ctenopharyngodon idella

Bacterial pathogens like Aeromonas hydrophila threaten aquaculture by compromising fish immune defenses. The intestinal barrier is a critical frontline defense against pathogenic bacteria in fish, yet its regulation by neuroimmune mechanisms remains poorly understood.
